30.10.2009
Estonian Minister of Education and Research Tõnis Lukas met Estonian School in London on 30 October during his working visit to the UK. While meeting the group of parents and teachers, who founded the Estonian School in London, Minister Lukas thanked them for their brave initiative and enthusiasm. “We hope that a foundation has been laid for keeping Estonian language and culture alive here in the future,” he said.
The Estonian School in London is an Estonian-language school that was established by parents with the support of the Estonian Embassy in the spring of 2009.
Minister Lukas will continue his programme in Cambridge, where he visits the Cambridge Union Society, Kings College, meeting MP Charles Clarke, Chairman of the British-Estonian Association Neil Taylor, former Ambassadors to Estonia Charles de Chassiron and Sarah Squire, Estonian students and professors in Cambridge and many other distinguished guests. In the afternoon he will give a keynote speech 'Education and Research – the Potential of a Small State to Reach the Top' at the Global Student Education Forum.
The Global Student Education Forum (formerly known as the 'Oxford – Cambridge Education Forum') is an independent student-led initiative. Its ultimate goal is to provide an on-line platform where students and alumni of universities around the world can engage in meaningful discussion and debate on education theories, policies and practices.
