08.10.2008

The Foreign Ministry is supporting e-governance training for officials from the foreign ministries and other government institutions of Albania and Montenegro with 597,000 kroons (about 38,000 EUR).

Estonia’s goal is to help improve the e-governance capabilities of the Western Balkan countries, Albania, and Montenegro, explained Foreign Minister Urmas Paet. “Estonia would like to share its e-government experiences with the world. With the training, we will give an overview of the creation, composition, and functioning of an e-governance system,” said Foreign Minister Urmas Paet. “The skilled used of information technology improves the government’s efficiency, transparency, and responsibility in the area of offering public services,” Paet emphasised.

The project will be carried out in Albania and Montenegro by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in co-operation with the e-Governance Academy. The project is being supported by funds from the Foreign Ministry’s development and humanitarian aid budget.

The Estonian Foreign Ministry’s development and humanitarian aid budget for 2008 is altogether 60 million kroons.
