Estonian Ambassador Aino Lepik von Wirén visited Wales on 4-6 September

07.09.2010

During her first visit as the Ambassador of Estonia to the UK, Mrs Aino Lepik von Wirén gave a welcome speech on the opening event of Vale of Glamorgan Festival of Music in St. Donats Arts Centre on 5 September. The Festival started there with a celebratory evening where Wales met Estonia in music, poetry and authentic Estonian cuisine. The musical programme included works by Russian and Estonian composers; a new work by Helena Tulve; and a short piece by the figurehead of this year’s Festival, Arvo Pärt. The music was interwoven with readings by leading poet Philip Gross, winner of the 2009 TS Eliot prize.

The day before, on 4 September, the Ambassador attended the opening of the Lithuanian artist Aleksandras Aleksejevas' exhibition, the photo exhibition The Baltic Way and the concert by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir at the St. David’s Cathedral in Wales.

On 6 September, Mrs Aino Lepik von Wirén had a meeting with the Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales, Jackie Brown, Head of Arts Branch and Councillor Keith Hyde, the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff. The Ambassador also had a tour in the Cardiff castle, the Millennium Centre and the Senedd.
