Peace Child - Alpha Omega - UK PERFORMANCE

30.01.2010

Ely Cathedral
30 January 2010 - 7:30 PM

Peace Child- Alpha Omega (PC-AO) is a Pan-European project funded by the EU’s ‘Culture Programme (2007-2013) that aims to promote and initiate intercultural dialogue involving young and adults, together with people of different faiths and others, through inspirational music and discussion. The process of PC-AO will culminate in three performances held in three different countries: in the UK, Estonia and Turkey.

At the UK performance at the Ely Cathedral on 30 January, Andrew Parnell will conduct the Ely Choral Society, together with choirs from Witchford Village College and Southfields Junior School, Peterborough and an orchestra in this powerful piece composed by David Gordon. Part musical, part oratorio, this "musical conversation" begins with a catastrophe which forces the story's four young characters and the story teller (played by Gemma Craven) to re-examine their own identities and belief systems as they learn from each other.

Young Estonian singers together with conductor Aarne Saluveer will represent Estonia at Ely. In Estonia the main partner for the project is Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare, in co-operation with Estonian Union for Child Welfare, local religious leaders, art collages and non-governmental organisations involved in youth work. The content of the work and the production itself in Estonian cultural context is organised by Neeme Kuningas of The National Opera.

Following the performance at the Ely Cathedral there will be a question and answer session with notable faith leaders.
