Exploring Eller
Creating a New Performance Tradition for the Piano Works of Heino Eller
Pianist Sten Lassmann examines the piano works of Heino Eller, of which he has just completed a new recording. Focusing on Eller’s ‘The Bells’ (1929), Preludes from the First Book (1914–17) and the folk-music-based Six Pieces (‘Estonian Suite’, 1946), he will discuss how analytical thought affected his interpretations and the experience of trying to build a performance practice for repertoire with no established performance tradition.
