Kristiina Ehin ja Jürgen Rooste in Aberystwyth - WALESTONIA FESTIVAL
15.10.2008 - 16.10.2008
As part of the Walestonia Festival 2008 two Estonian poets, Kristiina Ehin and Jürgen Rooste, perform at Aberystwyth Arts Centre with young Welsh poet and rapper Aneirin Karadog.
The event is organised byWelsh Literature Abroad, Literature Across Frontiers, The Estonian Literature Information Centre and The Estonian Embassy in London and is sponsored by Academi, The Arts Council of Wales and The Welsh Assembly Government.

Jürgen Rooste belongs to the so-called social wave of young Estonian poets. His rebellious performance, ecstatic language and calculated style are characterised by brilliant use of free verse, which often extends to the spoken language. His texts invite you to the rivers and seas of rock and punk music. Humming, growling, sniffing and shouting are a true part of both, his texts and performance. The undertone of his poetry is always as sharp and precise as a sword in an experienced warrior’s hand. http://elm.einst.ee/issue/23/poetry-jurgen-rooste Since March 2007, he has been Head of the Estonian Institute in Helsinki.
Kristiina Ehin is one of the most popular poets in Estonia, where poetry readings are fashionable, attracting young and old alike. Her deeply personal and cutting edge poetry is also reflecting the traditional Estonian folk song, which dates back over two thousand years. It can be sampled in The Drums of Silence published by Oleander Press (www.oleanderpress.com). The book won the Corneliu M Popescu Prize for European Poetry Translation in 2007. She is one of the founders of the Full Moon Poetry Festival at Luhtre Farm, Raplamaa, Estonia (www.luulefestival.jcirapla.ee).
