The Male Voice Choir of the Estonian Academy of Sciences
05.08.2008
Concert in
London's Southwark Cathedral
Tuesday 5th
August at 3.30 pm
free admission
The choir of the Estonian Academy
of Sciences has been consistently judged the leading Male Voice choir in Estonia.
They have built a solid reputation in Classical music, Estonian Folk music, and
rapidly developing Contemporary Estonian music. The programme reflects this
diversity and displays their qualities of resonance, dynamics, and vocal
dexterity.
The choir has always shown
intense Patriotism and Spirituality, which in the past led many of its members
into involvement with the independence movement. Today these feelings
underscore their choral work, and a mission to encourage and support small or
emergent choirs.
The Musical Director is Prof.
Kuno Areng, one of the leading figures in Estonian music, of whom a
contemporary said: "If there were no Areng, we would not have seen the
boom in chamber choirs, fresh ideas in interpreting early music, or the new
rise in choral composition." Henn
Eerik accompanies the choir on piano or organ.
