It all started here - the first of Mahler's nine completed symphonies, and the first to be performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, in January 1939. Then conductor Bruno Walter took the Orchestra through the First Symphony's contemplation of nature, its funeral march, its dalliance with despair, its rumbustious folk themes and its exultant conclusion. Now we hear an account from a conductor distinguished by his great experience drawn from lasting orchestral relationships, Neeme Järvi.
