Heinavanker at the Canterbury music festival
24.10.2007
24th October, Canterbury Cathedral
The Heinavanker (Haywain) ensemble, conductor Margo Kõlar, began making music together in 1988. The group's name is derived from the famous triptych altarpiece by Hieronymus Bosch, which depicts a praying angel and hidden demon vying for possession of the beautiful music atop a hay wagon headed for destruction.
The ensemble's concert programmes are based on Gregorian chant, early polyphonic music, and religious folksongs from Estonia. The group has performed in Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Scandinavia, the United States and Switzerland, and has participated in festivals in Russia, Denmark and Sweden. This is their first performance in Britain.
